Domaine Rimauresq
Famille WEMYSS
Rimauresq takes its name from the river (Réal Mauresque) which crosses the domaine. This estate located in Pignans (Var) plays an essential role in the vineyards of Provence. In 1941, with some others winemakers, the family played a big role in the creation of the Côtes de Provence AOC. In 1955, Rimauresq obtained the classification in "cru classé" for the quality of its wines. A few years later, in 1988, the Wemyss family of Scottish origin acquired the estate and continued the efforts begun nearly a century ago to keep the wines at the top of the appellation. The vines are grown from 140 to 190 meters height at the bottom of the Nôtre-Dame des Anges mountain. Both altitude and shadow of the mountain help to keep natural freshness in the wines. The vines are farmed organically and the domaine started the certification process in 2017. The whites and rosés are fermented in stainless steel after a short cold maceration. They are aged on the lees in a combination of oak and stainless steel. The reds are vinified in stainless steel tanks and carbonic maceration or cold maceration are sometimes used before fermentation. They are aged in oak (from barrels to 600l demi-muids, 20% new oak) for around a year. Wines are lightly filtered and whites and rosé are fined before bottling."The wines are all carrying a lot of freshness and the fruit expression is always very pure"
