Domaine Richaud
Marcel RICHAUD
Marcel Richaud is the 5th generation to run the family's domaine. He took over from his father in 1974 at the early age of 20 years old and started to farm by organic methods at the very beginning. In this respect, domaine Richaud was one of the first organic domaine in the country and Marcel became a leader of the organic wine scene. Over the last few years Marcel’s children (Thomas, Claire and Edith) joined the domaine and are carrying their father’s heritage forward.
The vines are farmed organically and grapes are harvested by hands.
The wines are made in large capacity concrete vats, each varietal vinified apart until a blend is done, about 8 months later. Grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts. The whites go through a 15 days pre-fermentation cold maceration and are filtered before bottling. The reds are not. A tiny amount of sulfur is used (around 15mg per litre).
"The wines are really well balanced and show a lot of finesse. Their Cairanne is a benchmark for the appellation."
