Domaine Robert-Denogent
Jean-Jacques, Nicolas and Antoine ROBERT
Jean-Jacques Robert took over five hectares of his grandfather’s vines in the Mâconnais just outside the village of Fuissé after finishing law school in 1988. Jean-Jacques soon came under the influence of two ardent defenders of terroir, the great master of Morgon, Marcel Lapierre, and American importer, Kermit Lynch and introduced radical changes to the domaine. Since then, his sons Nicolas and Antoine joined him 2006 and 2012.
The old vines (between 50 and 70 years old) are farmed organically since 15 years and about to be certified. They also think about switching to biodynamics in the coming years.
The grapes go through a cold pre-fermentation maceration in stainless steel before being pressed very slowly in order to oxydized the juice. Then they’re sent to barrels, concrete tanks or demi muids for fermentation and a 2 winters long ageing. Vats are not “ouillé” in winter. Once again, the point is for the wine to get used to air contact. Thanks to these practices only a tiny amount of sulfur is added before bottling. Wines are not fined or filtered.
"The wines of Robert-Denogent offer tremendous value, wonderful richness, and impressive complexity"
